If you work in an office setting, you know Office Fashion for Men has changed drastically over the years. Suits have gotten sleeker, ties have gotten slimmer, patterns and colors are now welcomed in professional environments. We always want to be sure the way we dress is business appropriate and conveys professionalism in our respective fields.
Thereās certainly no lack of self-help articles that connect how you dress for success in the workplace, insomuch as even a 2012 study correlates clothes and the wearerās physiological awareness. But that doesnāt mean we canāt add our own personal touch to our style in the office and be remembered.
Then thereās the question of what to wear on those greatest of days; casual Fridays. Thankfully, office fashion for men has become somewhat less restrictive and more inviting to doing your own thing.
Weāll describe the levels of proper workplace attire from most conservative to most casual on a Monday-Friday scale. (Note: this is not a āwhat-to-wear Monday through Friday, just an idea of what you can wear based upon your own style and of course your place of work. Monday:
Starting with the most conventional style of dress for work, Monday attire is the most conservative. Charcoal gray and navy-blue are the mainstream of a business manās closet. Darker colors are the most unequivocal and viewed as the most professional because they do not attract a lot of attention and are easy to match with almost any colors. Normally referred to as āinterview attireā a charcoal gray or navy-blue suit worn with a white dress shirt, a dark colored tie, dark brown or burgundy shoes and belt is a modern yet traditionalist flair.
Tuesday:
Following the style of dark grays and blues is the concept of medium grays and blues. As you go from darker to lighter the style of your wardrobe naturally becomes more casual and vibrant. Medium shades as opposed to dark shades simply allow more color combinations to be possible while still maintaining a professional manner. Medium gray and bright navy-blue combined with light blue or lavender shirt and tie combinations are a good example of this. Belt and shoe combinations can go a shade lighter to give you more room to diversify the color you incorporate into your wardrobe.
Wednesday:
After the medium color suits is light blues, grays and earth tones. Light color suits are some of the most adaptable when it comes to suits. Bright color shirts and cognac brown belts and shoes really give a vibrant appeal the man wearing them. Lighter colored suits are normally considered summer suits because of the brighter appeal.
Thursday:
Stepping away from suits altogether we can observe the concept of casual attire which incorporates the use of sports coats, khakis, and casual dress shirts. Most of the time when we dress conservatively we like to avoid shirts with plaid patterns and multiple colors, but as dress codes relax the idea of colors and patterns are refreshing. Sports coats and blazers that donāt have matching pants open many possibilities as far as what can be joined with them to create a unique approach. The same rules as far as color shades can be followed with more casual attire, the darker the color combinations the more conservative the fashion.
Friday:
The most casual style of professional dress comes in the form of dress slacks or khakis combined with dress shirts and casual shoes. Boat shoes, loafers, and even certain styles of dress tennis shoes offer many options for a man looking to take advantage of a comfortable casual Friday. Polo shirts or short sleeve button-ups wore with or without a sport coat or blazer can do well to get a man through an informal Friday at the office. Jeans and vests can also be worn with or without a tie to give a man an even more unique look to present at work making the transition to after work festivities swift and easy.
